What is a Distributor?

An ignition component called a distributor disperses spark to each spark plug in the engine. Voltage from the ignition coil is transmitted to the distributor cap through a spark plug wire. Inside the distributor, the rotor receives this voltage via the center terminal of the cap. As the distributor rotates, the rotor sequentially distributes electricity to the outer terminals of the cap. From there, the electricity travels through separate spark plug wires, reaching each spark plug. Finally, the spark plug ignites the engine’s air/fuel mixture, enabling combustion.
